Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. The cause is usually an infecting bacteria such as Salmonella, E.coli, or Listeria. Food poisoning can be life-threatening for the elderly, young or ill.
For emergency treatment before professional help arrives, add a teaspoon of ginger, galangal, cinnamon or cayenne tincture to half a glass of warm water and take one or two sips every few minutes. If you can keep them down, swallow two or three garlic tablets as well. To rehydrate, drink glasses of warm water containing two teaspoons each of salt and sugar.
